GIVE A YEAR TO GOD

As a human being created in God’s image, you have a unique purpose and that is to fellowship with and know your Creator intimately and, through that fellowship, to grow into His likeness.  As a corollary to that purpose, you have a unique vision that can only be conceived within that intimate fellowship.  You are called from your mother’s womb to intimately know the God of the universe and to fulfill a vision in Him for which He has uniquely called and prepared you. That is your destiny.

As you read the paragraph above, two things likely came forth from your heart.  First, a sense of agreement and excitement deep within as to the truth of the challenge and promise. Secondly, the struggle and often frustration that comes as we seek to pursue our destiny in God in the midst of the pitfalls, snares and distractions we face in daily life.  We struggle with areas of fear, ignorance, unbelief, rebellion, woundedness and apathy within ourselves, as well as the ever-present pressure of circumstances that compete for our affection – the world’s lie of fulfillment contingent on what we own or how much prestige or comfort we experience, rather than the discerning and expression of who God made us to be.

Don’t despair. God has help for you. When Jesus invited those early disciples to drop their nets and follow Him, in so doing they were enrolling in a school that was divinely ordained to the fulfillment of the purpose and vision for which they were created. As they walked with Jesus day by day, in His presence they were being taught, challenged, encouraged, chastened and joyfully drawn to find their destiny completely in Him. The limitations that fear, ignorance and unbelief had put upon them fell away and they were fashioned into a vessel of honor for God. It’s interesting to note in John’s gospel how those who dropped their nets to become followers then became believers, then disciples and, finally, friends of God as they submitted themselves to the discipline of the Spirit administered by their loving Shepherd.

That was fine, you may say, for those who lived in Jesus’ time, but what about us today? What has come to be called the “Five-Fold Ministry” referred to in Ephesians 4:11 (apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists and teachers) is often called the “five fingers of God’s hand” extended today. The commission given to these ministries is the fulfillment of your destiny. As you allow these ministries to serve you through teaching, training, counsel and example, who you were called to be comes forth more purely and powerfully each day.

Cross Train has this two-fold vision:

1)    To facilitate you in your purpose before God, to know Him intimately and to be renewed into His image.
2)    To help you find your unique vision in Him and – through identifying and maturing of your gifts, talents and abilities – to enable you to pursue that for which God has apprehended you.

As you set aside other pursuits (drop your nets) and focus on pursing your destiny in fellowship with others who are doing the same, you are guaranteed an exhilarating – though challenging – adventure. If you will agree to temporarily set aside pursuing career, relationships and education and submit to the vision of Cross Train, we invite you to live in community with those pursuing a like vision.  In that community setting there will be daily domestic tasks, fellowship, Bible study, worship and prayer, teaching and opportunities for ministry. Through individual goal setting, a course will be charted to bring you to your place of maximum fruitfulness for God. Whether you are called to fulfill your destiny in Kathmandu or Bayfield, as a long-term missionary or veterinarian, a year totally given to God is a wise investment. It’s been truly said that “time spent sharpening an ax is never wasted.”

Ultimately, the church’s calling is fulfilled as it’s members – you and I – find identity in God and fulfill our destiny birthed in intimacy.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Chuck met the Lord in 1979 when he was converted while serving as youth pastor at an inner-city church in Houston, Texas. He “hit the ground running” with a dual passion for evangelism and discipleship, which led him into a wide variety of ministries including church planting and the creation of discipleship houses. Chuck served on the evangelism staff at Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas, Youth With A Mission (YWAM), as staff evanglist at Shady Grove Church in Texas and missions pastor at Cornerstone Church in Durango, Colorado. Most recently, Chuck served on staff at the International House of Prayer (IHOP) in Kansas City where he regained his “first love” and was established in the primacy of the “first commandment.” Chuck sees his role with Cross Train interns as a “match maker and midwife,” facilitating intimacy with their “bridegroom” and helping to birth the unique vision that is born from that union. In December, 1997, Chuck received a visitation from the Lord wherein he was commissioned as an arrow maker.  God promised to bring rough-hewn sticks and the grace to see them fashioned into straight, sharp arrows to be shot from the bow of the Lord into their destiny.
