Historically, there has been a long-standing animosity between the Navajo and Hopi tribes. At the Fall 2004 Retreat one of the Hopi women asked forgiveness from the Navajos for all the hurt and pain the Hopis had caused them. It was very exciting to see Native American individuals able to ask forgiveness of one another.
Lory and Jayne have witnessed much deliverance on the reservation. However, discipleship and training for Native Americans is still needed. Their vision is to see our Native American brothers and sisters freed from bondage with their hearts healed. Lory and Jayne also want to train Native Americans to become part of the ministry team and take part in ministering to their own people.
From Lory and Jayne's July 25 newsletter:
"Blessings to all of you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Wow, have we had a full, full summer. We are seeing God move and touch youth in a mighty way, and we are privileged to be a part of that.
Last week we were at Camp Native America in St. Michael's, AZ. Lory worked with the older teenage boys; they built a handicap ramp and installed it for a Navajo man who could speak no English. He was very happy when they came to install his new ramp. The location of his home was among many traditional hogans, and there were several teepees around the property. When you see a teepee out here on the Navajo reservation, that means they are having traditional Peyote ceremonies in the teepees. Summer is the season when many of those ceremonies take place. Initially the young boys challenged Lory and kept running off and being disrespectful. By the time they had been with him for the four days of camp, they were laughing and joking and actually smiling as they rode around with him in his red truck.
Please keep a young man named Drake in your prayers. His heart would be visibly softened during times of praise, worship and ministry, and then he would become angry and disrespectful during other activity times. He has never known his father, and his grandmother brought him to the camp. On Wednesday afternoon after a powerful visit from the Holy Spirit with 14 of the youth, Drake came and asked Lory for a hug and was obviously impacted by the love of Jesus. Eleven of the youth asked for and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and were able to pray out loud and fervently for the first time. Thank you, Father, for Your faithfulness to answer our prayers and hear our requests.
We were able to take Pastor Dennis and Corrine Gallegos to Cortez, Colorado, to hear Dutch Sheets. Felix and Eloise Begay also joined us in Cortez, and we were thankful to be able to facilitate getting Native American pastors to the meeting with Dutch.
We are looking forward to the camp meeting in Sheep Springs, NM this week.
Thank you for all of your support. Please keep us in your prayers, as we have encountered significant warfare after powerful times of ministry with the youth and confronting witchcraft.
Many of you will remember Ramona, who is the young woman from Hopi. Please keep Ramona and her family in your prayers. She and her two boys came and spent the night with us last night. Gambling addiction is running rampant throughout her family, and she came for prayer for her family concerning this issue. Gambling addictions are a growing problem for many of the Native Americans we are in relationship with. Switching from alcohol and drug addiction to gambling is very prevalent these days."
